On January 8th, Professor Yijun Lin led students from the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) at National Chengchi University on a field trip to the CPC Corporation, Taiwan's Petroleum Exploration Museum. The visit, hosted by Chen Meiru, Head of Cultural Heritage Management at the company's Public Relations Office, along with Guan Jiaqi, Head of Sustainable Planning in the Business Research Office, Zeng Jianren from the Environmental Protection Team, and tour guide Chang Guoxiang, was marked by enthusiastic exchanges. This off-campus teaching initiative aimed to familiarize the GIDS students and faculty with the corporation's journey of sustainable development.

Chen Meiru extended a warm welcome on behalf of CPC Corporation, emphasizing the educational value of the field trip in broadening students' interdisciplinary understanding of the petrochemical industry. Chang Guoxiang then utilized multimedia displays at the Petroleum Exploration Museum to make complex petroleum expertise accessible through interactive installations and engaging guided tours, fostering a learning and experiential environment. Visitors gained insights into the versatility of petroleum, energy research and development, and the company's historical trajectory towards sustainable development.

Zeng Jianren subsequently discussed the ecological impact assessment of CPC Corporation's "Third Natural Gas Receiving Station" project on the algal reef ecosystem in Taiwan. Highlighting ongoing environmental conservation debates, he outlined efforts to preserve the Gui-Tang Natural Coast and monitor the ecological health of the Da-Tan algal reef ecosystem, protecting species like the critically endangered Chiasmorpha kabeyai coral reefs and other marine life. These initiatives underscored CPC's commitment not only to ecological preservation but also to reducing air pollution, aiming for a dual benefit of environmental protection and national development.

Following the tour, Chen Meiru and Guan Jiaqi engaged in interactive discussions with the GIDS students and faculty. Questions focused on CPC's strategies for energy transition, alignment of their sustainability reports with international GRI standards, and their stakeholder engagement frameworks. Guan Jiaqi detailed CPC's strategies in quality oil production, carbon reduction, and clean energy initiatives, including collaborative efforts in advanced catalysts, green energy stations, and composite materials for the transportation sector. Looking ahead, CPC aims to become a leading provider of zero-carbon emission clean energy by 2050.

Regarding sustainability reporting and stakeholder engagement, Guan Jiaqi highlighted CPC's adherence to the AA1000 SES:2015 Stakeholder Engagement Standard, identifying nine major stakeholder groups. Since 2007, CPC has been a pioneer among state-owned enterprises in compiling sustainability reports, responding to growing national and international interest in corporate sustainability and public safety in the petrochemical industry.

Finally, Chen Meiru underscored CPC's deliberate placement of the Petroleum Exploration Museum in downtown Taipei, aiming to enhance public awareness and understanding of the petrochemical industry among citizens, students, and international visitors. This initiative reflects CPC's proactive stance on corporate sustainability.

The visit concluded with lively exchanges and a group photo, marking a successful interaction between National Chengchi University's GIDS and CPC Corporation. Both parties look forward to future collaborations and deeper engagements.
